We do not diagnose based on ultrasound appearance alone.

Polycystic ovary syndrome is a condition involving ovulation and hormonal changes. Irregular periods, androgen-related symptoms and tests, and ovarian findings are considered together, and other causes are ruled out. How it is evaluated also varies with age and developmental stage.

You can hear an explanation during your visit, review what you need to know, and then decide.

Please also tell us about changes besides your periods.

Cycle and bleeding

Please record the interval between periods and the bleeding pattern. If you have gone a long time without a period, we will assess that as well.

Skin, body hair, and weight changes

We check acne, increased hair, hair loss, and weight changes. This condition is not judged by weight alone.

Are you preparing for pregnancy?

Treatment goals and medication choices depend on whether you currently need contraception or wish to become pregnant.

Rather than a single treatment, we manage several goals separately.

Menstruation and the endometrium

Considering the bleeding pattern and endometrial status, we discuss cycle management and hormone-related treatment.

Endometrial biopsy, hysteroscopy and tests for hormonal abnormalities are all available at our clinic. We select the tests needed based on your symptoms and examination findings.

Ovulation and pregnancy

If you wish to become pregnant, ovulation and other factors are assessed so that needed treatment or specialist care can be planned.

Metabolic and daily-life health

We look at metabolic risks such as blood sugar, along with eating, activity, and sleep. We set care goals you can sustain, rather than extreme weight loss.

Hirsutism and hair removal consultation

Elevated androgen levels may cause hirsutism. Our clinic offers both general hair removal and hair removal for intimate areas in a private setting.

If your goals change, we review treatment again.

Treatment response and a new plan

Prescriptions are adjusted while monitoring changes in periods and symptoms. If you plan to become pregnant, discuss again whether your current medication is appropriate.

Ongoing long-term care

Rather than promising a cure, management that follows symptoms and long-term health is needed. If you are having a hard time, you can also ask for emotional support.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do the cysts on the ovaries need to be removed?

The name alone does not mean surgery to remove cysts is needed. Ask for an explanation that separates diagnostic criteria, current symptoms, and treatment goals.

Can PCOS be diagnosed by ultrasound alone?

Polycystic ovary syndrome is not diagnosed by the appearance of the ovaries on ultrasound alone. Menstrual and ovulation patterns, symptoms related to androgens and test results are considered together, and other causes are excluded. Age and stage of development also affect the assessment.

Feel free to bring your questions.

Please tell us what is bothering you and your previous examination and treatment history. Together we will confirm the care you need.
