Breast Ultrasound
We look at lumps and changes from previous images, and interpret them together with other tests.
We distinguish what ultrasound can show and what it cannot.
Breast ultrasound uses sound waves to look at breast tissue. It can help examine a palpable area or findings from another test in more detail. Ultrasound alone cannot rule out all breast cancers or replace the role of mammography.
You can hear an explanation during your visit, review what you need to know, and then decide.

Comparison with previous tests
If you have previous ultrasound or mammogram results, please bring them. They help us compare how the same area has changed.
From testing through explaining results
Preparation and history
Please tell us the area of discomfort, whether you are pregnant or breastfeeding, family history, and previous surgeries. We will confirm at booking whether any special preparation is needed.
Examined from the skin surface
Gel is applied and the probe is moved to examine the tissue. Please tell us right away if the pressure is uncomfortable or painful.
Confirming the follow-up plan
You will be told whether to observe or whether other imaging or a biopsy is needed. Please also confirm what testing can be done at the clinic and what would be referred elsewhere.
Even if results are normal, please tell us about any new symptoms.
Screening and care for symptoms
An ultrasound result alone does not explain every cause of a persistent lump, discharge, or similar symptoms. If a new change appears, please seek care again.

Do I always need a mammogram as well?
The combination of tests is decided based on age, symptoms, risk level, and previous test results. Ultrasound and mammography provide different information.
