Causative infection and irritation
Infections such as chlamydia and gonorrhea can be tested for, but a pathogen is not identified in every case of cervicitis. Recurrent irritation and other causes are also considered.

Gynecology
If there is discharge or bleeding after contact, we examine the cervix and whether infection is present.

The cervix is the opening where the vagina and uterus meet. Inflammation there may have few clear symptoms, or it may show as a change in discharge or bleeding between periods or after intercourse. Ask for an explanation that separates tests for the cause of inflammation from the role of cancer screening.
You can hear an explanation during your visit, review what you need to know, and then decide.

If you have pelvic pain or fever, we evaluate for upper genital tract infection and related concerns. We also separately check whether cervical cytology and HPV testing are needed.
Based on symptoms and the exam, we decide which specimens and tests are needed. Please tell us about recent sexual contact and previous treatment.
You will receive guidance on whether medication is needed and how to use it. Partner testing and treatment, and how long to avoid sexual activity, also depend on the infection.
If bleeding or changes in discharge continue after treatment, we reassess. Do not extend the antibiotic course on your own.
The word inflammation does not mean a cancer diagnosis. Persistent bleeding and similar symptoms still need a cause identified, and abnormal screening findings are evaluated through a separate process.
Please tell us what is bothering you and your previous examination and treatment history. Together we will confirm the care you need.
